Discover the Beauty of Japanese Gift Wrapping: What Is Noshi?
When it comes to giving gifts in Japan, it's more than just pretty paper and bows — it's about showing respect, care, and thoughtfulness through presentation. One beautiful example of this is the traditional use of “Noshi” .
What is Noshi ?
Noshi is a decorative element attached to gifts in Japan, especially for celebrations such as weddings, births, and other joyful occasions.
It typically consists of a folded piece of paper with a symbolic strip, and most importantly, it includes the name of the sender written on the front.
Noshi symbolizes good fortune and sincere wishes , and it's a meaningful way to show that your gift is more than just a material item — it's a heartfelt gesture.
How Do We Use Noshi at Tokyo Tots?
At Tokyo Tots , we offer complimentary Noshi gift wrapping for select items, using our original baby pink wrapping paper with an adorable star pattern. 💕
We print the sender's name vertically , as is traditional in Japan.
To help us do this properly, we kindly ask that you provide your name in romaji (Japanese romanization).
For example:
"Smith" → Smith
This way, we can convert your name into Japanese katakana and include it on the Noshi just like it's done in Japan!
This unique wrapping adds a special touch, making your gift even more memorable — especially for baby showers, newborn celebrations, and milestone gifts.
