Discover the Beauty of Japanese Gift Wrapping: What Is Noshi?

When it comes to giving gifts in Japan, it’s more than just pretty paper and bows — it’s about showing respect, care, and thoughtfulness through presentation. One beautiful example of this is the traditional use of “Noshi” (のし).

What is Noshi?

Noshi is a decorative element attached to gifts in Japan, especially for celebrations such as weddings, births, and other joyful occasions.
It typically consists of a folded piece of paper with a symbolic strip, and most importantly, it includes the name of the sender written on the front.

Noshi symbolizes good fortune and sincere wishes, and it's a meaningful way to show that your gift is more than just a material item — it's a heartfelt gesture.

How Do We Use Noshi at Tokyo Tots?

At Tokyo Tots, we offer complimentary Noshi gift wrapping for select items, using our original baby pink wrapping paper with an adorable star pattern. 💕

We print the sender’s name vertically, as is traditional in Japan.
To help us do this properly, we kindly ask that you provide your name in romaji (Japanese romanization).
For example:
"Smith" → スミス
This way, we can convert your name into Japanese katakana and include it on the Noshi just like it’s done in Japan!

This unique wrapping adds a special touch, making your gift even more memorable — especially for baby showers, newborn celebrations, and milestone gifts.

Important Notes

  • Noshi wrapping is available for one boxed item per order

  • If selected for items not packaged in a square box, the service will be removed
